Grow field guide
How to begin?
- observe nature...
- spend time in nature...
- seek out and listen to stories about nature from scientists, Indigenous folx, farmers, vets, gardeners, birders, zookeepers, park guides, children who play outside...
- learn facts about how nature works and what isn't working...
Journal Prompts
- Brainstorm where can you access nature to learn more about the issue you're curious about. (ex: a park, looking out your window, a forest, your kitchen, a garden, a zoo, your pet dog, a lake or stream, the beach...). Then, go there!
- Write: What do I first notice about this place? (smells, sounds, textures, colors, temperature...)
- Write: What specifically leaps out to grab my attention?
- Write: If I were to follow my intuition, where would it lead me next?
- List: What questions does this raise? Where am I most curious?
- List: What emotion, color, or animal is associated with each question or theme?
Creative / Visual Art Prompt
- Grab your watercolor set, colored pencils, camera, or other artistic mode, and create examples of patterns you see around you in nature. Which ones match the themes in your research?
- Take photos of the part of nature you're connecting with. Share them on your social media with #naturecentereddesign and tag us! @ arborrevolutions
What needs are present from your growing research
- what are the patterns, themes, ah-ha moments, or outliers?
